Make sure to choose the printer configuration you have, if applicable. To find the newest drivers navigate to the Xerox Support and Drivers page for your model. When released, drivers for the new macOS can be found on the support pages for the printers. Avoid any printing issues from upgrading the Big Sur OS with no drivers available. Please check for the driver availability for your printers before you upgrade your OS. Our drivers and other software available for our printers will be tested with the official released Big Sur version on its release. I am discussing the release now to let you know that we are ready to test. All the official sites had listed October for the release, but those sites now say, “Later in 2020”. Rumor had it that the newest operating system for the Apple Mac would be released on Octowhen the new iPhone family was introduced. The macOS Big Sur 11.0 is the 17 th and newest OS for the Mac. The new macOS coming soon is macOS Big Sur (version 11.0). Starting in August, you will find an option in Self Service named Big Sur Migration which will prompt you for your password. If you are already on macOS Big Sur because your Mac came with Big Sur or you updated during the testing phase, you will still need to complete the upgrade process to move to our new management system. If you use software that is still not compatible with macOS Big Sur, please let us know so that we can approve an exception for you to remain on macOS Catalina for the time being or find an alternate solution. If you are unable to upgrade on your own, and are unable to schedule a time to upgrade via the Service Desk please contact us so we can work towards an alternate option for you. We do not expect the future upgrade to macOS Monterey, or future versions of macOS to require a full backup and erase like this upgrade does. Starting JanumacOS Catalina will not be supported, except in rare circumstances with approved exceptions. We will not require all supported Macs to be upgraded to Big Sur (or macOS Monterey) until 2022. We understand that an upgrade process like this can be an inconvenience, and we want to help make sure you have time to do this. We expect the upgrade process via the Service Desk to take 3-5 days depending upon how busy we are. If you’d prefer that the CAS Service Desk take care of the backup and upgrade process for you, we can schedule a time for you to drop off your Mac, or you can drop it off at your convenience. Starting in August, you will find an option in Self Service named Big Sur Upgrade which will warn you that it will download and install macOS Big Sur after erasing your Mac. You can complete the upgrade without being on campus, as long as you have a backup of your data. If you maintain a backup of your own using Time Machine or something similar and are comfortable with it, you can complete this upgrade on your own. In June, Apple announced the next version of macOS coming this fall and we have already begun testing macOS Monterey as we anticipate being able to make it available to you before the end of the year.īecause of this management system change and the required space to upgrade to macOS Big Sur, you will need to backup your data and fully erase your Mac as part of the upgrade.
